Barefoot Wanderer
Lyrics/Poems by Avrom Sutzkever
Translation by Nathan Wolski
A barefoot wanderer on a stone
In eveninggold
Casts off himself the dust of the world.
Out of the forest
A bird takes flight
And catches the last morsel of sun.
A willow by the river is also there.
A road.
A field.
A quivering meadow.
Mysterious steps
Of hungry clouds.
Where are the hands that create wonder?
A living violin is also there.
So what remains to be done in this very hour
O, world mine in thousand colors?
Only
To gather in the knapsack of the wind
The red beauty
And bring it home for eveningbread.
A loneliness like a mountain is also there.
