To See Me in Every Form

Lyrics/Poems by Avrom Sutzkever
Translation by Nathan Wolski

I want you to see me in every form

And always—in fresh transformation,

To extend your white arm to me

And free me from the tiniest dust.

Let your step, the bloompoint of my awakening,

Step upon my wild mortal frame

As upon roots, fused with my blood may

Your pure voice gush into me.

Your voice, which I have seldom perceived, rare

And couldn’t understand from whence, where,

Now I hear it from all distant worlds

And know—the lips of the voice—that is you.

With fateful invigoration—your plough,

Turn over my spirit—a spring garden plot,

Seed in me the creative flame,

Which I am long ready to attain.
