Making this album was an absolute labour of love.
We’ve all spent hours and hours in recording studios before, and it isn’t always fun! There’s often a lot of hard work too. But this album was the most fun we’ve ever had in the studio. We all agree.
There was an amazing vibe the whole time we were recording. Most of the time we had at least one of the members of our families visiting. Parents, cousins, uncles and aunties, nieces dancing around, babies sleeping. It was an intensely beautiful and personal feeling singing the songs our grandparents sang to our parents. The tradition lives on as we sing them to our children.
The session musicians we brought in to record this album became our extended family for those few weeks. We laughed together, ate and drank together.
We are sure you’ll be able to hear the love we poured in to the recording when you get to listen to it.
We named our band The Bashevis Singers as a play on the name of the great Yiddish writer Isaac Bashevis Singer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1978. You can read about him on wikipedia Isaac Bashevis Singer
